A letter from a guest ...
My wife and I do a lot of cruising . we also own and ride horses . (and I spent several years at sea in the Caribbean and Pacific) . in almost every port of call, we try to find horses to ride . mostly, we end up on half-dead nags, trudging along the beach . a very poor commentary on the quality of service and a poor reflection on the recommendations of the cruise line. Subsequently, my wife searches the cruise boards for "a better experience."
This past year, we certainly found one at Yukon Horse Adventure with Joni MacKinnon . The horses were healthy, well trained, and well outfitted. Joni matched the riders with horses to provide the best experience. As experienced riders, we were given horses that we could ride (and not just hang on for the ride) . those riders with little or no experience were given horses more suited to a beginner . and so EVERYONE had a good experience . saw great vistas, got to see and hear about a significant piece of history (I did not know that 'staking a claim' actually meant driving a wooden stake into the ground and I did not know what a 'claim jumper' really was!)
We had such a good time that my wife and I plan to return to the Yukon just to ride with Joni! Considering we live in Southern California and ride daily in some of the most gorgeous terrain around it is a testament to Joni and her operation that we would travel so far north just to ride with her!
